Ashley Hegarty was given the Life Saver Award Friday from the Sioux City Fire Department
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A Sioux City woman was honored as a hero this week. Ashley Hegarty was given the Life Saver Award Friday from the Sioux City Fire Department for helping to save a man who's home caught on fire as he was asleep.
"I happen to step outside and notice smoke coming from my neighbor's window, so I went and called the fire department and I feel good about it that I was able to help somebody out, especially somebody being asleep in the house," said Hegarty.
Firefighters say if Hegarty had not seen the smoke and called 911, not only would the man have likely died, but others may have gotten harmed.
