For one-dozen northwest Iowa families, the wait continues. They're waiting for BNSF Railway crews to finish cleaning up a weekend derailment before they can return to their homes.
About 25 rail cars went off the tracks early Sunday morning two miles south of Lester in Lyon County. 12 homes were evacuated as a precaution because a car carrying liquefied petroleum gas was damaged.
A railway spokeswoman says crews worked overnight to clear all the other cars from the site. Once they're removed, the remaining fuel in the damaged car will be burned off.
The spokeswoman says the families should be able to return to their homes later Monday afternoon after the burn is completed.
