Lyon County has a new sheriff, Stewart Vander Stoep

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (KTIV) -

Blythe Bloemendaal has been the sheriff for the past 12 years, but has decided to step down due to family reasons.

Republican candidate Rick Bos won the Iowa primary race against Stewart Vander Stoep by 11 votes.

However, Vander Stoep has since filed a petition to run again, this time as an independent candidate and he wins on Tuesday.
