NORFOLK, NE (KTIV) -

Here's a sober reminder that high school football can be dangerous.

Norfolk Catholic senior linebacker Isaac  Pfeifer suffered a spinal injury on a tackle Tuesday night in a 51-8 win over Fort Calhoun.

Head coach Jeff Bellar says Pfeifer was airlifted to an Omaha hospital where he had spinal surgery on Wednesday. Pfeifer's parents and a priest from Norfolk Catholic are with the player in Omaha.

Coach Bellar says Pfeifer is still in recovery and doctors are not sure about the extent of the injury because of swelling.

Bellar says the school is asking for prayers for Isaac Pfeifer.
