SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Sioux City Fire Department gave Andrew Darley the Citizen Life Saver Award Wednesday morning.
Darley helped a young man who collapsed in a park near Mercy Hospital where he works as a technician.
Darley was on his way to work when a young teenage boy came up to him and asked him for help.
"And he had told me that his friend had collapsed over at the park, and so me, knowing CPR, I just followed him, ran with him over to the park, and I checked the gentleman's pulse, he had no pulse, he wasn't breathing," Darley said.
Darley then immediately began CPR.
Firefighters say by starting CPR before emergency crews could get to the scene, they believe Darley greatly increased the chance of the man's survival.
