Sac City police chief says the skeletal remains buried in a basement at 610 North 5th street are those of Mark Koster.
SAC CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Sac City police chief says the Iowa State Medical Examiner has identified the skeletal remains buried in a basement at 610 North 5th street as those of Mark Koster.
Police say there were no signs of foul play when they first investigated his disappearance two years ago.
But now they are investigating what they call the suspicious circumstance of where the remains were found.
They say additional autopsy results will take 8 weeks or longer, due to the condition of the body.
Koster was the prior owner of the house where his remains were found.
In 2010, his family listed him as a missing person.
He was later declared deceased by the courts.
Koster was last seen in May of 2009 with an unknown man who had been staying with him for three months before his disappearance.
Sac City Police, along with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, are still investigating.
They are asking for anyone with information to call 712-662-7772.
