CEDAR FALLS, IA (KTIV) -
Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn advanced to the 8-man football championship game with a 61-22 win over Exira-Elk Horn Kimballton on Thursday in the UNI-Dome.
Exira-EHK led 7-6 after one quarter. MMC's touchdown came on a 63-yard run by quarterback Tanner Utesch. Andrew Hoefling also scored on a 59-yard run as the Eagles scored 28 unanswered points in the second quarter and led 34-7 at halftime.
"I was a little concerned right out the get go, but emotions are high, teams are flying on high octane here," said MMC head coach Kyle Oswald. "We kept our nerves under us and took care of business like we needed to and it all paid off."
"This is awesome," said Utesch. "Our community has been with us every step of the way. Going from 0-9 our freshman year to 13-0 right now in our senior year we're just looking forward to playing in that state title game."
Seventh-ranked M-M-C (13-0) will now play third-ranked Gilbertville-Don Bosco (12-0) in the 8-man title game, next Thursday November 15th at 10:00 AM. Don Bosco beat Murray, 78-76, in overtime in their semifinal on Thursday morning.
