Bishop Heelan lost 3-1 in the Class 4A state volleyball semifinals to Solon on Friday.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KTIV) -
Kelsey Cave had 16 kills to lead #6 Solon to its first trip to the state volleyball finals with a 27-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 victory over #2 Bishop Heelan Friday afternoon.
Jordan Runge and Kelsey Hinrichs added 15 and 12 kills for Solon while Emma Rickels had 53 assists and Rylee Smith had 28 digs. Lauren Brobst and Megan McCarthy both had 13 kills for Bishop Heelan, who ends the year at 36-11.
"Third and fourth (sets), we got up on an eight point run and then we lost it. We kind of started hesitating and losing our confidence," said Bishop Heelan head coach Mary Miller. "Got to give credit to Solon because they kept in their system. They got the ball to their middles in transition and that really hurt us because we couldn't stop their middles."
The Spartans face top-ranked Charles City in the Class 4A championship match at noon Saturday. Solon will enter the championship match with a 33-4 record.
