SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

As Ron showed us in his forecast, Friday night looks to be relatively "warm." Although, probably not ideal for camping. But don't tell these people that.

Around 300 decided to spend their night outdoors at the Siouxland Sleep Out event, which raises awareness and money for homeless people.

An event organizer says that getting into someone else's shoes and seeing the struggles they face, can be an eye-opening experience.

"It just brings it all full circle. It brings it really to life for people who don't usually experience this. We all have warm houses and warm beds to go to," said Susan McGuire, grant writer at Center for Siouxland.

A silent auction was also held tonight. This year's event hopes to raise about $45,000.

The money will go to charitable agencies who provide support services to those in need and help locate permanent housing.
