SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
One man is in custody for robbing a Sioux City bank.
Police say 26-year old Johnnie Hawkins Junior confronted an employee as she opened Heritage Bank's doors at 4530 Singing Hills Boulevard around 7:30 Saturday morning.
They say the Sioux City man demanded money and showed a handgun. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash, but was later caught.
When an officer first noticed Hawkins at the Sergeant Bluff, Iowa mini mart he fled, but police eventually caught up to him.
Hawkins is charged with first degree robbery, assault while participating in a felony, and possession of a firearm. Authorities say no one was hurt.
The money and weapon have been recovered.
