A pair of Tucker Culjat first-half touchdown runs and two field goals by Jon Meyerring carried Council Bluffs St. Albert past Emmetsburg in a Class 1A semifinal game Saturday, 18-7.
The E-Hawks turned the ball over twice, fumbling the quarterback-center exchange at the St. Albert one late in the fourth quarter and missing a chip shot field goal.
St. Albert led, 18-0, in the third quarter when Emmetsburg finally scored when Andrew Wellick ran around the right end for a 10-yard touchdown.
"I thought earlier we weren't nearly as good as when we walked off the field tonight," said Emmetsburg head coach Mike Dunlap. "We've come a long ways. These seniors have given us tremendous leadership and done a great job for us all year long."
St. Albert will play top-ranked Iowa City Regina (13-0) in the Class 1A title game next Friday morning. Emmetsburg finishes at 11-2.
