Update: A man has been released on bond following an eight-hour standoff with police

Police say the standoff happened in Hawarden, Iowa over the weekend on Saturday night.

About 7:00 'o clock, a woman told police that 31-year-old Paul Long had assaulted her and threatened her with a handgun.

She said Long told her police would have to shoot him if they came inside the house, where there were several weapons.

When they did go in the house, officers found Long hiding in the attic.

He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Domestic Abuse, Assault and Child Endangerment.

Jail records say he has been released.
