Meat industry responds to LA's "Meatless Monday"

Posted:

The U.S. meat industry is responding to a move by the city of Los Angeles to get people to give up meat one day each week. The LA city council has adopted a resolution encouraging "Meatless Mondays" as a way to reduce intake of saturated fats.

The American Meat Institute issued a statement saying "If the sponsors of the Meatless Mondays campaign were truly concerned about nutrition, they'd host 'More Veggie Monday.' Instead, they target for reduction a food that is already consumed in the proper amount, and that is simply irresponsible."
