SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Students followed the yellow brick road into the world of reading.
Dozen of elementary students at Sioux City's Riverside school and at Dakota Valley in North Sioux City, South Dakota listened to KTIV's Christy Batien read them the story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."
They discovered that the original story written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 is quite different than the original movie version released in 1939 featuring Judy Garland.
The kids all got a copy of the book to keep thanks to the "Spotlight on Literacy" program, a partnership between KTIV and the Sioux City Community Theatre.
They'll also get to see the "Wizard of Oz" on stage at the theater in two weeks.
