A tragic house fire rocks the town of Lake City, Iowa. One adult and three children died in the blaze early Tuesday morning. The victims are identified as 23-year-old Tyra Pierson, her 10-month-old son Xavier, her eight-year-old sister Madison, and her three-year-old brother Wyatt. A Lake City police officer discovered the fire, but couldn't get in the house because of the intense flames and smoke. The state fire marshal is investigating, but says the fire is not considered suspicious.
The search for those two missing northeast Iowa cousins brings the father of one of them to Sioux City. Drew Collins handed out flyers Tuesday in hopes that someone might recognize his daughter Elizabeth and his niece Lyric Cook. Other family members and friends are taking the flyers across the state. The girls vanished while riding their bicycles in Evansdale. Tuesday was the four-month anniversary of their disappearance.
A senior care center in Le Mars celebrates completion of a three-year renovation project. Officials at the Good Samaritan Society nursing home cut the ribbon Tuesday on the new "neighborhood concept." Rooms were expanded, giving residents more privacy. There are also two courtyards, a chapel, and a new community room.
Students from Gehlen Catholic High School in Le Mars spent Tuesday helping others. As part of the school's annual service day, all 120 students took care of fall chores for the elderly and those in need of assistance. They raked leaves, washed windows, and worked on lawns. The students worked on 89 projects in all. This is the school's 10th year of carrying on the tradition.
