Colton McCrystal signs his letter of intent to wrestle at the University of Nebraska.
SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) -
Nebraska has one of the top ten wrestling programs in the country and on Wednesday, the Huskers signed one of Siouxland's top wrestlers, Colton McCrystal from Sgt. Bluff-Luton.
McCrystal signed his letter of intent surrounded by his parents, team and head coach Clint Koedam.
He's the defending state champ at 126 pounds, after being the state runner-up as a freshman and sophomore. McCrystal has 143 wins and just 8 losses heading into his senior season.
He originally committed to Northern Iowa, but after a visit to Lincoln, he liked what he saw from the Huskers.
"They've got the guys, the coaches, the facilities that I know are tops in the nation," said McCrystal. "I know I can develop into a national champion. Being surrounded by the best stuff is going to lead me to be the best guy. It's an obvious choice."
McCrystal plans to redshirt his freshman season.
