Flood waters in Siouxland are long gone, but in Dakota Dunes, something stands as a permanent reminder of the 2011 flooding. A permanent berm, located on holes 17 and 18 of the Dakota Dunes golf course.
It was just one of many topics covered at this year's Siouxland Initiative meeting at the Dakota Dunes Clubhouse Friday afternoon.
Another topic included CF Industries, which recently announced an expansion at its Port Neal location, and now plans to add new ammonia and urea units there.
Siouxland Initiative's President Chris McGowan says the key to recent economic success, learning from unsuccessful experiences.
"To finish second isn't where we want to be, but we know that we're competitive and we know that we're doing some things very well. We have to continue to focus on those things, but we have to find small ways to improve as well, and we're committed to doing that," said Chris McGowan, Siouxland Initiative President.
McGowan also spoke about selling 109 acres of land in the Bridgeport West Area to the city of Sioux City and then purchasing 150 acres right next to that block of land with those funds.
