Morningside is 1-5 in the FCS quarterfinals.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
In the words of Morningside senior quarterback Joel Nixon, Saturday afternoons nail-biting 40-35 win over Montana Tech, wasn't the prettiest.
But, for the seventh time in school history, the 3rd ranked Mustangs are in the NAIA FCS quarterfinals.
They'll host 10th ranked Southern Oregon on Saturday, November 24th.
The Raiders hail from the Frontier Conference, and were co-champs with Montana Tech.
Southern Oregon brings the No. 1 ranked offense to Sioux City to battle Morningside's top ranked defense.
After trailing 13-0 in the second, players and coaches agree, it was good for Morningside to face some adversity.
"13-0 at that time we needed to get a drive going and we needed to get some points on the board and just build some confidence into our defense," Head Coach Steve Ryan said. "And, our defense battled all day and they just needed to see from our offense that we could put the ball in the end zone."
Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
