NORFOLK, Neb (KTIV/US92) -
The Nebraska Department of Education released their latest State of the
Schools Report Tuesday, the first under the new Nebraska Performance
Accountability System. The new system measures and ranks schools by
their average scores in reading,
math, writing and science.
There are a total of 248 districts state-wide. When it comes to Norfolk Public Schools, students
ranked 69th in reading and 79th in math improvement.
They also ranked 69th in reading and 86th in math growth.
When it
comes to overall status, NPS ranked 149th in reading, 123rd in math,
160th in science and 142nd in writing. Norfolk schools rank 174th when
looking at graduation rate.
Norfolk's
Director of Teaching and Learning, Bob Hastings, says the latest
numbers confirm that NPS students are making significant improvements
across grade levels and throughout subject areas. He says the growth
rankings placed Norfolk in the top third of Nebraska
schools. Hastings acknowledges that there is still a lot of work that
remains to be done, but NPS is moving a very positive direction.
