SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A Sioux City man will spend more than 17 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a gun during a burglary.
Last January, Scott Slauter, 38, was videotaped burglarizing a home in Sioux City. He brandished a handgun while committing the crime.
He took jewelry and a pistol from the home.
In August, Slauter pled guilty to charges of possessing a stolen gun, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Back in 1992 when Slauter was 18, he was convicted of shooting a South Sioux City, Nebraska convenience store clerk in the face during a hold-up where guns were stolen.
Two months later, he and another inmate escaped from the Dixon County jail. They were caught after stealing a sheriff's squad car.
In 1996 Slaughter was charged with burglarizing SmithCo Manufacturing in Le Mars, Iowa.
