Union Pacific Railroad had been urging Big Soo to expand for about a year.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The city is selling land along the Missouri River to help a long-time Siouxland company expand.
Big Soo Terminal stores different agricultural products, brought in by trucks, trains, even barges. Its parent company, Tegra, is buying ten acres of land near Chautauqua Park at $5,000 an acre.
The move will allow the company to expand its rail access, by building more tracks.
"This will allow us to handle more rail cars more efficiently and free up some space on our rail track to expand it and try out some other lines of business," said Jim Palmer, assistant manager for Big Soo Terminal.
The rail construction will cost about $500,000. Palmer says Union Pacific Railroad had been urging Big Soo to expand for about a year.
