Construction on the Kum & Go on Gordon Drive could start as early as next spring.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The city council also approved a zoning change that would allow a new Kum and Go convenience store in downtown Sioux City.
Plans are to transform the train depot building and parking lot at 1005 Gordon Drive. Since it's near the base of the viaduct and traffic is a concern, the entrances to the gas station would be on Virginia and Court streets.
Because of road work slated for both Gordon Drive and Interstate 29, the city zoning committee says it's wise to get the new convenience store up and running as soon as possible.
"Getting ahead of the game, getting it built will make it a little easier for them to maintain their business during the interstate construction process," said Mark Jensen, chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission.
