Grandfather clocks are still a family heirloom.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The clock is ticking for a Sioux City business that's stood the test of time.
What started as a hobby for Dick Ahlers got out of hand. Now more than 40 years later, Ahlers Clocks is closing its store at the Southern Hills Mall. Ahlers says he's ready to retire, and slow down.
Ahlers Clocks sells all kinds of clocks. Grandfather clocks are a favorite. Ahlers, himself, says grandfather clocks are still a family heirloom, and can be an "emotional" buy if you are in the market.
"People buy a chiming clock, not so much for the time. They actually buy it for the chiming and ambiance," said Dick Ahlers, Ahlers Clocks Owner.
Ahlers still plans on working part-time from his home, and making service calls.
The store will close at the end of December, or in January.
