NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) -
The outdoor arena at the Divots DeVent Center, west of Norfolk, has been transformed from a summertime concert grounds to a drive-thru lighted winter wonderland.
When you drive down the quarter mile path at the Celebration of Lights, you'll encounter dancing trees, arches and towers that blink to music.
Plus, there's a 30-foot Santa going down a chimney, a 200 foot tunnel of lights, animated displays, waving snowmen, nativity scenes and more.
Then at the end there are displays made by local organizations.
The one with the most votes will receive a $250 donation.
In addition, there are special nights that allow admission discounts when you bring a donation to support local non-profit agencies with their holiday drives.
Sara Gadeken, Divots Marketing/Events Manager said, " So we decided, let's target the Rescue Mission and help them out and what other causes can we do? And, the Salvation Army is another one that we have a couple food bank nights. You can bring a couple cans of food and get dollars off your admission and then also Toys For Tots."
Organizers say the reaction so far has been ear to ear smiles and holiday spirit.
Hours for the Celebration of Lights are from dark until 9 p.m. Sunday thru Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Admission is just $10 per car load or $15 for larger vans, and if you bring a bus, it's $1 per person.
More information can be found at divotsconference.com.
Gadeken and Divots staff started working day and night on the display in October to get everything up and running.
They opened on November 17th and have already seen more than 600 vehicles come through.
Many are making it a new holiday tradition.
