DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -
A University of Iowa student from Spirit Lake has been appointed to the state Board of Regents. Governor Terry Branstad has named 20-year old Hannah Walsh as the board's student member.
Walsh is a political science major at U-of-I. She has worked as an Iowa Senate page and serves as co-chair of the University of Iowa Governmental Relations Committee.
Governor Branstad says Walsh will be an effective leader for students at all three state universities. Her appointment is subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
If confirmed, Walsh will serve until April 30, 2015. She fills the remainder of the term of Greta Johnson, who is no longer a student at one of Iowa's three public universities.
