Voters in Storm Lake head to the polls Tuesday. They will vote on three measures; two involve increasing a property tax levy. If that measure is approved, the school there would have 11 million dollars to renovate the 50-year-old high school, which is now too crowded. Storm Lake polls are open from noon until 8 p-m. We likely will get a better idea of the plan to put a new casino in Sioux City's Battery building Tuesday. Sioux City Entertainment is expected to lay out its plans to Downtown Partners, and give the media a tour of the location. There are two other groups with casino proposals, Ho-Chunk Incorporated and Penn National Gaming which already operates the Argosy Casino in Sioux City. All three groups will make their pitch to the state gaming board next month.
How to pay for the Affordable Health Care Act? That's what Sioux City leaders are trying to answer. They are looking at whether to offer insurance to part-time employees or pay a fine based on the new guidelines for all cities, which requires them to offer a health plan to employees who work more than 29 hours. With more than 200 employees the city would face a 4 to 5 million dollar budget increase. The city finance director says are considering three options, but haven't made a decision.

Officials say 50 years ago we didn't have the near the number of distractions in the car that we do now. Their advice to stay safe, get prepared before you drive by setting your heater, radio and GPS, and put the cell phone away while you're in the car.
