If you're having a tough time getting into the holiday spirit because it's just too hot, you're not alone.

It has been an unusually warm and dry start to December across much of the country, the last month in what could be the warmest year on record.

Sunshine and short sleeves are a common sight under blue skies and temperatures more suited for spring.

Many places have seen temperatures in the 70s, some even touching 80.

There have been cold spells and a bit of snow, but nowhere near as much as normal, and in many areas what has fallen is melting quickly.

It's not all smiles and sunshine, however.

A wide-spread drought continues across much of the country, hot and dry conditions at a time when decorations and trees, not the temperatures, are supposed to be going up.
