DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -

In November of 2011, a jury, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, convicted Richter of first-degree murder in the shooting of 20-year-old Dustin Wehde in her Early, Iowa, home back in 2001.

Prosecutors say Richter shot Wehde as part of a plot to frame her first ex-husband, John Pitman.

Richter claimed self defense.

She's serving a life prison term.

Her fiance, Russell Schertz, says Richter won't be in the Des Moines courtroom as her lawyers argue for an appeal of her conviction, and ask for a new trial.
