Evansdale authorities released information Wednesday about the two missing cousins, Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins, who were last seen July 13th at Meyers Lake.
EVANSDALE, Iowa (AP) -
10-year-old Lyric Cook and her nine-year-old cousin Elizabeth Collins were last seen riding bikes in Evansdale, Iowa back on July 13th.
Their bikes and purses were found next to a lake.
The lake was drained and several searches were held with no success.
But Wednesday, authorities announced at a news conference that hunters had found the bodies of the girls.
The remains are being sent to the state lab in Ankeny to determine their cause of death.
Captain Rick Abben, with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department said, "It's definitely not the outcome that we wanted obviously. This is a difficult thing for us to go through. It's a difficult thing for the people of the community. Not just the community of Evansdale, but also the whole community that all came together to show their support for family, and also for law enforcement."
Authorities won't say much more about the case.
They say they've had numerous tips over the last six months and are still looking for the public's help in this case.
