The Hawkeyes snapped a three game losing streak to Iowa State.
Iowa City, IA (KTIV) -
It was a battle of experienced veterans and a lineup two thirds full of freshman faces.
And, it was the younger, Iowa Hawkeyes coming away with the 80-71 win over Iowa State.
With the victory, the Hawkeyes stopped a three game skid to the Cyclones.
The "Sioux Crew" did it's part. Adam Woodbury had 9 points and Mike Gesell scored 9 of his 11 points in the second half.
The third freshman starter, Anthony Clemmens poured in a career high 14 in the win.
"I didn't offer him, myself, the first two or three times I watched him," Fran McCaffery said of recruiting Clemmens. "It was like the fifth or sixth time where I came to appreciate all the things he does to help your team win games."
The Hawkeyes and Cyclones are back on the floor Dec. 15, for the Big Four Classic in Des Moines. Iowa plays Northern Iowa. Iowa State will play Drake.
