Iowa freshman Mike Gesell has moved from point guard to shooting guard in the Hawkeyes' starting lineup.
IOWA CITY, IA (KTIV) -- -
Just ten games into the season, the Hawkeyes have found their freshman point guard. The surprise is that it isn't South Sioux City grad Mike Gesell.
Gesell is still starting, but he's moved to shooting guard in favor of Anthony Clemmons. Clemmons has 21 assists with just two turnovers in three starts, all wins.
Clemmons will again start alongside Gesell, when Iowa plays Northern Iowa Saturday in Des Moines in the inaugural Big 4 Classic.
"We basically battle at it every day," said Gesell. "He's a great defender and has helped me with my game personally, just going against someone like that every day in practice. We learn stuff from each other's games and I think we compliment each other very well."
Iowa (8-2) and UNI play at 1:30 Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa State and Drake play at 4 o'clock.
