New Neb. agriculture Census will be conducted soon

Posted:
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -

Nebraska farmers and ranchers can help make sure the USDA has accurate information about agriculture in the state.

The Census of Agriculture is conducted every five years, and it provides information that policymakers use to develop programs and plan funding.

The USDA's Dean Groskurth says the Ag Census is the only comprehensive source of data on agriculture in every county of the nation.

The 2007 Census showed there were 47,000 farms on 45.5 million acres in Nebraska.

Census forms will be sent out to farmers and ranchers in late December. They must be returned by Feb 4.
