NEWTOWN, Conn. (NBC) -

As many as 26 people are dead following a school shooting in Newtown Connecticut.

18 children were among those killed when a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and began firing.

Three others, including a teacher, were hospitalized.

Sources say the 20-year-old gunman, now dead, had connections to the school.

Children reunited with their parents after the shooting reported hearing the gunshots and being ushered away by their teachers.
