Iowa's Gesell named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Iowa guard Mike Gesell has been named the Big Ten Conference's Freshman of the Week for his efforts in Iowa's win over Northern Iowa in the Big Four Classic.

It's the first honor of Gesell's career.

The South Sioux City, Neb., star poured in a career-best 23 points, connecting on four three-pointers, while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor as the Hawkeyes defeated the Panthers 80-73.

The win, was Iowa's fourth straight, as the Hawks improved to 9-2. It's the programs best start since the 2008-2009 season.
