Sheriff-elect: Crews trained, ready for active shooter situations
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Whenever you have a tragedy like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary, you might wonder how prepared your local law enforcement is to handle an "active shooter."
Newly-elected Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew says his deputies have learned a lot from past tragedies—like Columbine. He says the training makes it easier to respond based experience, not emotions.
"We have an active shooter, you know, we're going to enter the school, two or three of us and we're going to try to find that shooter and eliminate the problem," said Dave Drew, sheriff-elect for Woodbury County.
Drew says it's better to be ready for things they hope never happen, than to have something catch them off guard.
