SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KTIV/KUOO) -
The Iowa Great Lakes took a glancing blow from winter's first storm.
Locally the storm dumped nearly three inches of snow on the Iowa Great Lakes, with lesser amounts to the west and north.
Northwest winds gusting to nearly 35 mph continued to cause considerable blowing snow and drifting in open areas throughout the day. The difficult travel conditions resulted in most schools in the area either starting late or calling off classes altogether.
Law enforcement officials report no major incidents, other than a few vehicles that went into the ditch.
