Dave Drew officially takes over as the new Woodbury County Sheriff on Jan. 2
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Woodbury County is getting ready to begin a new era with a new sheriff. Dave Drew, a 29-year veteran of the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department, was elected in November to replace retiring sheriff Glenn Parrett.
He'll take over officially on Jan. 2. Drew says one of his priorities is getting the deputies and the whole department involved, whether it's on the road or on the water.
Drew says that means more frequent discussions with city and school leaders as well as the public about making the community a safer place.
He added that also means clearly communicating what's happening so everyone is up to speed.
"Working with the public, not leaving the public to wonder about what's going on, but being out on the forefront and actively participating. You know I've said forever, it's not a 9 to 5 job. There's a lot of after-hours," said Dave Drew, sheriff-elect for Woodbury County.
Drew also thinks it's important for members of his department to have more presence at community activities like ball games and other school sponsored events.
