Street view of Glen Oaks Boulevard extension near 31st Street in Sioux City.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It's been five years in the making, but a street extension project on Sioux City's northside is open and ready for drivers.
Glen Oaks Boulevard now connects to Chambers Street instead of having drivers turn onto 31st to connect the streets.
The city had to purchase several homes before work could begin. Construction on the project started in June, and was completed by Sioux City's engineering division last week.
"We believe that connection will improve the street continuity and the overall access for neighborhood access in that' area," Brittany Anderson said.
The project also extended sidewalks on both sides of Glen Oaks Boulevard along with the addition of water detention ponds and a new water main.
