The Briar Cliff men's basketball team is looking forward to shaking off the cob-webs when they hit the court for the Morningside Holiday Classic on Friday.
The last time the Chargers suited up for a game was back on December 15.
B-C entered the holiday break winning three of their past five and are off to a 10-5 start.
However, four of their losses have come in early season GPAC action.
There are two areas the team is hoping to improve upon in the Holiday Classic and heading into the new year: Defense and sharing the basketball.
"Defending for 40 minutes, 80 minutes if you look at both games, that's just something we haven't done on a consistence enough basis this year," Head Coach Nic Nelson said. "And then offensively, we talk about what our assist total is at the end of basketball games is usually pretty indicative of how well we've played. You look at our last game before break, we had five assists for the whole game and we weren't successful in that game."
Both coaches and players say the conference is the toughest it's been in recent years. They're approaching the Holiday Classic as a litmus test to gauge where they are as a program heading into the final half of the season and into the meat of GPAC play.
"The conference, top to bottom is better than it's been since I've been here," Senior Michael Collison said. "I don't remember the teams top to bottom being as good as they are this year. And, these two games will be really good for us to get back to the things we want to do, defend better and share the ball better and it'll be a good measuring stick to see where we are at."
