Rhoads confident in Richardson on eve of Liberty Bowl

Paul Rhoads and ISU enter Monday's game with a 6-6 mark. Paul Rhoads and ISU enter Monday's game with a 6-6 mark.

Last year's Pinstripe Bowl loss was the difference between Iowa State finishing with a winning or a losing record. One year later the Cyclones are back in the same position, hoping to capture this hardware while ending the year 7-6.

"We've had an excellent week of preparation," Head Coach Paul Rhoads said. "We've done that through some adverse weather conditions and this late in the season, with only one game to play I'm very proud of our kids focus and concentration."

In last year's game both Jared Barnett and Steele Jantz saw significant time under center. But, Coach Paul Rhoads says that freshman Sam Richardson will have a little longer leash due to his solid preparation up to game time.

"Sam's performed well in anticipation for this game," Rhoads added. "We flipped flopped back a year ago, there was probably a little more open competition going on in the month of December a year ago in anticipation of the Pinstripe Bowl. It's very different from this year."

Richardson will also have no shortage of support from the Cyclone faithful as the Iowa State invasion of Memphis is evident everywhere you turn. And Rhoads expects things to get crazier as kickoff approaches.

"The Cyclone nation has showed up in the city of Memphis and Memphis is very aware of that. If they thought that was all, they've got another thing coming."
