Florida man dies after being hit by car

A Florida man has died after being hit by a car while crossing a Sioux City street.

According to Sioux City police, just before six o'clock Wednesday night, 54-year-old Daniel Leighninger of Bradenton, Florida was crossing Gordon Drive near the 3200 block.  He stepped onto the street and a car driving east hit him. 

When police arrived, Leighninger was lying in the road with a head injury and bleeding.  Paramedics took him to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City where he later died. 

Police say Leighninger was not at a designated pedestrian crosswalk.  The crash is still under investigation.
