A jaywalking Florida man dies after being hit by car

A Florida man is struck by a car and killed while walking across a Sioux City street.  Police say 54-year old Daniel Leighninger stepped into the path of a car on Gordon Drive near the Hy-Vee store Wednesday night.  Paramedics took him to Mercy Medical Center where he later died.  Police say Leighninger was not at a designated pedestrian crosswalk.  The accident remains under investigation.

UPDATE: Le Mars Gehlen and Spalding Catholic will merge high schools

Le Mars Gehlen and Spalding Catholic Schools will consolidate.  The school boards from both districts unanimously approved the merger Wednesday night.  Starting in the fall, all of the high school students will attend Gehlen in Le Mars.  That will mean a 25-mile commute for students at Spalding School in Granville.  Both districts will keep their own Kindergarten through 8th grade schools.

Woodbury County officially welcomed its new sheriff

Woodbury County has a new sheriff.  Dave Drew was sworn in before a group of family, friends, and other members of law enforcement.  Drew, who's served with the department for years, says he's excited about his elected position.  As sheriff, Drew says he wants to expand the department's presence in the community.
