Witnesses say there were injuries in all three cars.
DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -
Crews were on the scene of a multiple vehicle crash that sent several people to the hospital earlier Sunday in Dakota City, Neb.
Just after 2:30 p.m., crews were called to 1967 Highway 77, where authorities believe two vehicles were hit by a third car traveling in the opposite direction, sending two of them into the ditch.
The Dakota County Sheriff's Department says four people were hospitalized. The jaws of life were used to free at least one person from the three-vehicle crash.
Authorities said they had to cut a hole in the roof of one of the cars to rescue a second victim. Deputies confirm that two children were injured.
Mercy's Air Care was also called in and at least one child was airlifted to an Omaha hospital. Authorities have not released any specific information on injuries and are still investigating the cause.
The highway had been closed in both directions for more than two hours, and re-opened just before 5 p.m.
