Kirk Levin, 21 in Sac County, Iowa court.
EARLY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A Siouxland man is charged with murder after, investigators believe, he stabbed his mother to death before kidnapping a Storm Lake woman, last week.
Preliminary results of an autopsy show 45-year-old Marilyn Schmitt died of "sharp force injuries." In a criminal complaint, Sac County sheriff Ken McClure says Levin allegedly stabbed Schmitt to death after choking her while inside her home at 2242 Ira Avenue, sometime in the early-morning hours of January 3rd. In fact, Levin admitted to law enforcement that he was the only one who could have killed Schmitt. Authorities found Schmitt's body last Thursday while investigating a kidnapping.
The kidnapping victim, Jessica Vega, told deputies that Levin came to her home in Storm Lake, and asked her for a ride. Vega told officers she drove Levin to his home where, she says, Levin tied her up and stuck her in the trunk of his car. She says, later, Levin put her in the backseat and drove away. But, just a half-mile down the road, Levin lost control of the car, went into the ditch. He fled on foot. A passer-by found Vega.
Levin is scheduled to be back in Sac County court on Tuesday.
