DUBUQUE (KWWL) -
Quad/Graphics, an international printing company based in Sussex, Wisconsin, announced Wednesday it's closing its Dubuque facility in early March.
According to Claire Ho, Corporate Communications Director for Quad/Graphic, the Dubuque closure will impact approximately 215 employees.
She said the last day of work for most employees will be March 8, though some will stay on after that date to finalize the plant's closure.
"This is a straightforward business decision and is not a reflection on our employees' performance," Ho said in an e-mail to KWWL. "They have performed well over the years, delivery [sic] high quality service to our clients; however, ongoing softness in the economy and the book industry have created conditions that require us to take action to strengthen our long-term competitive position."
She said Quad/Graphics will absorb the Dubuque facility's work into other US Quad/Graphics manufacturing facilities "where we believe we can achieve the greatest manufacturing and distribution efficiencies."
According to Ho, the Dubuque employees will receive a separation package, which will include pay, extension of healthcare benefits and assistance in finding a new job. She added Quad/Graphics has approximately 300 positions open elsewhere and encourages Dubuque employees to explore those opportunities.
The available jobs elsewhere range from "equipment operators to maintenance professionals, customer service representatives and more across our network of U.S. facilities," Ho said.
