4 for 4: SC Quadruplets getting ready to turn four

Carter, Lily, Logan and Seth Malm will turn four years old on Monday, Jan. 14. Carter, Lily, Logan and Seth Malm will turn four years old on Monday, Jan. 14.

Like most families, the Malms spend a lot of their evenings together.

Back in 2008, Jessica Malm and her husband Kevin's world changed forever, when they got the news that quadruplets were coming.

"I knew it was going to be crazy and I knew it was going to be scary, but I had no way to prepare myself for what we've got," said Malm.

Because of the large numbers, Jessica left Sioux City for Omaha, and spent months getting herself ready for the birth.

"Within four minutes, they all were born," said Malm.

Now, the "quads," Carter, Lily, Seth and Logan, are ready to turn four-years-old.

"I don't know that I had any clue about what it was going to be like," said Malm.

The Malms say things are constantly changing, with their three boys and one girl all developing different traits.

"I tried desperately to make her a tomboy because I thought she's got to be rough and tough to be able to take these brothers," said Malm.

But Lily isn't that all. She has simple life goals: to grow up, be a mom and wear makeup.

"They're developing their personalities more now. And so, that's fun and in doing so, then we can do more activities based on their personalities," said Malm.

Because of the group's closeness, their parents decided it was time to get them into preschool, so they could socialize a little bit more.

"They were becoming very four, I guess. So, we wanted them to kind of blossom," said Malm.

Still, all the kids share an incredible bond and desire to be together.

"If one of the kids is in the timeout, the others will get mad at me for putting them in timeout," said Malm.

Time is on their side, with another nine years to go, until the teenage years come around. And, if you're wondering, the family seems content for now to stick with four, but that could change.

"There's part of me that thinks maybe someday, but I don't think so right now. It's too much," said Malm.

The quads will turn four on Monday, Jan. 14.
