The next phase of a massive renovation of Memorial Park in Spirit Lake, Iowa is about to get underway.
The city council Tuesday approved a bid of slightly more than $99,000 for new playground equipment in the park. That's in addition to a splash pad, new shelter house and restrooms, walkways and other amenities being included in the refurbished park.
A local Kiwanis group raised the funds for the splash pad portion of the project.
Work on the renovation project started last summer.
City officials say the project has been long overdue as the park is in a highly visible area for people entering the city from the east.
