UPDATE: Search for fugitive caused road closure, standoff in Plymouth County

NEAR SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Authorities say the search for a fugitive, who failed to show up for a hearing, sparked a standoff in southern Plymouth County, Iowa, Friday.

It was a situation that closed this mile-long stretch of road... from Broken Kettle Road and West 52nd Street in Woodbury County, to County Road K-18 and West Loop Road in Plymouth County.

At about 3:00pm, Friday, deputy U.S. Marshals came to a home along K-18 searching for Geovany Gonzalez-Gonzalez. He's charged with drug trafficking, but failed to show up for a hearing.

Marshals were told that Gonzalez was inside the home, but was armed with a .380-pistol, and refused to come out. His family thought Gonzalez might be suicidal.

By 7:30pm, Friday, an Iowa State Patrol negotiator had talked Gonzalez into surrendering.

He's been booked into the Woodbury County jail. The road has since reopened.
