PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) -
The swearing in of the 88th session of the South Dakota legislature brought some new faces to Pierre.
"I feel like I'm in a fairy tale," said Nancy Rasmussen, (R) Hurley, S.D. "This is absolutely one of the best things I've ever done."
Newly elected Nancy Rasmussen represents District 17 which covers Clay and Turner counties.
The Hurley woman has a background in nursing and farming. She's also spent time working in the school system.
With her kids now grown, she says it gave her the opportunity to run for office.
"There's a lot of issues that are important to the families, to the schools, to the elderly and I think the people here will teach me a lot," said Rasmussen.
Rasmussen is one of 24 females serving in the legislature this year. There are 18 in the house and 6 in the senate. The record is 26.
