Siouxland health officials say there's plenty of the flu vaccine to go around here. Some parts of the country are experiencing shortages with the flu widespread now in most states. Pharmacies and clinics are keeping very busy giving out flu shots daily. Siouxland District Health has given out nearly 700 shots since October. Pharmacy officials say it's a little harder to re-order this year, but they're still getting the doses they need most of the time.
Senator John Thune says the country could be headed towards the same financial crisis Greece has been through. The South Dakota Republican spoke at a town hall with the Vermillion Rotary Club on Tuesday. At the forefront of his talk was the nation's debt ceiling, which President Barack Obama wants to be raise. Thune says he's not opposed to that, but says it must come with spending limits.
A renovation may give some of Sioux City's soccer facilities a needed kick. A CIP proposal calls for a renovation of the fields at Riverside Park. In the new fiscal year, $372,000 would be set aside to grade six to eight fields and add a new sprinkler system. Next year, a new concession and restroom building would be added along with new lighting.
Bacon Creek Park would add a campground under a proposal being considered by the Sioux City city council. The campground would accommodate both tents and RVs. Officials say it could help make Sioux City a destination. The council is considering allocating one-million dollars in capital improvement money spread over the next three fiscal years to pay for it.
